Description

The HORIZON 2020 program consolidates funding by the European Union for research and innovation. It is organized on the basis of three major priorities: scientific excellence, industrial supremacy and societal challenges.

It represents an extension, for 2014-2020, of the 7th Research and Development framework program which finished at the end of 2013. It sets out to focus more on innovation and market access (and less on research) than its predecessor, with simplified rules of participation, and a bigger budget (€80 billion), notably including the integration of the old Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Program (CIP).

Types of projects

Several types of projects are covered:

  • Collaborative R&D projects (100% subsidy)
  • Collaborative demonstration projects or market- or innovation-oriented projects (70% subsidy)
  • SME instrument (individual projects for funding innovation in SMEs based on 3 phases: feasibility (subsidy 60k€), démonstratioN (subsidy 1-3M€), marketing (indirect financing)
